The main focus for this work has been the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of young black men in the media.This interest emerged during the project's initial brainstorming phase as a desire to tackle a real-life issue affecting those in this community, ensuring this work would be grounded in authenticity.

Research into the media's representation of young black men found that 72% of UK newspapers report on them, with 62% of these reports labeled with gang affiliations.

With imagery playing a strong role in our current world age, representation and the correct type, is vital. For the impressionable and the ones coached on prejudice.

'The Contradictory' Aims to challenge the media in the portrayal of black men and to regulate the representation of them in various achieved roles. Also for black men to be able to hear as well as see the voices of individuals they could relate to.
